East Coast Weather

It is with a low chuckle that we listen to the reporters and pundits as they quote our fellow Americans who are living in the East and are experiencing a good old Midwest Snow storm. There are those who are chastizing the city and other governmental types for not getting the streets cleared fast enough.

My question to some of these folks is, "do you know what it means to be the receiver of an Act of God?" I think they should all be thankful they still have electrical power. When you lose power - it is a real disaster! Maybe they should all relax and listen to a good old country song by Hank Williams Jr. entitled "A Country Boy Can Survive". And then they might just take heed of some of the ways that we country folks can survive and be ready for the next time. end

FAREWELL TO NICOLLET COUNTY

I took this job and loved it.

This job is not a bore.

Nicollet County is the reason

No one could ask for more.

I know no one will stand in my way

When I"m walking out the door

I took this job and loved it.

Because it's the best for sure.

I've been working for this county

Exactly sixteen years.

I've seen some of the county's best

Perform above their peers.

I've seen county workers

Toil hard night and day.

They have made our county

A model in this state.

I took this job and loved it.

This job is not a bore.

Nicollet County is the reason

No one could ask for more.

I know no one will stand in my way

When I'm walking out the door,

I took this job and loved it.

Because it's the best for sure.

The citizens who live here

Know what's right and wrong

They're all good hard working folks

They'll keep this county strong.

We'll work together without rest

To keep this place the best,

You're here to serve them every day

For they deserve no less.

I took this job and loved it.

This job is not a bore.

Nicollet County is the reason

No one could ask for more.

I know no one will stand in my way

When I'm walking out the door,

I took this job and loved it.

Because it's the best for sure. end

WINTER TAKES ITS TOLL

Nicollet County Highway Engineer, Seth Greenwood reported at today's board meeting that the county highway workers have not used 400 tons of our allotted 1100 tons of salt to help get our roads in a safe driving condition. Winter has not officially arrived, but salt use certainly has been necessary. The crews are trying to use it sparingly to help make it last through the season. Greenwood explained that salt is ordered early in the summer and they use their "best guess" as to the amount they will need. end
